Volkswagen has announced that all Polo models above the entry-level S specification are to receive an upgrade to a touch-screen Bluetooth hands-free phone connection kit free of charge.
The Touch Phone Kit upgrade covers all Polo models from the BlueMotion up, and was previously available as an optional extra at £245. As the name suggests, the kit includes a 2.8in colour touch-screen, integrated into the Polo’s dashboard, which is capable of linking with a phone via Bluetooth and displaying the phone book, call lists, reception status, and additional information depending on the make and model of phone to which it is connected.
The system also includes voice control of phone functions including dialling and answering, and has text-to-speech functionality to read out incoming text messages and emails without the driver needing to take his or her eyes off the road. The system also supports simultaneous connection to two mobile phones.
The Touch Phone Kit upgrade comes shortly after Volkswagen announced that all Polo models would receive an upgrade to a DAB digital radio as standard, and that the Match trim upwards would also receive a Multi-Device Interface (MDI) for easy integration of external gadgets such as Apple’s iPod into the entertainment system.
The addition of Bluetooth connectivity as standard to most Polo models brings the range in line with Volkswagen’s other vehicles, with the system be standard on all High up!, Golf, Golf Estate, Golf Plus, Jetta, Touran, Tiguan and Sharan models above S specification and all Golf Cabriolet, Scirocco, Eos, Passat, Passat Estate, CC, Toureg and Phaeton models.
